Mr Francis Gardner

Since qualifying in 1992, Mr Francis Gardner has dedicated his career to women’s health. He initially trained and worked in both obstetrics and gynaecology for 17 years. In 2006, Mr Gardner made the decision to focus exclusively on matters of gynaecology and gynaecological oncology. 

One of the main tenets of his work is the improvement of gynaecological services for all women, whether this is achieved through adapting existing methods of treatment or devising new practices altogether. This feeds into Mr Gardner’s passion for patient wellbeing and ensuring that every individual is provided with the best possible care, regardless of their condition or circumstances. 

He is internationally recognised for being an expert in the performance of awake-patient procedures, including hysteroscopies, and has helped to develop many new pieces of surgical equipment for the improvement of such procedures. 

Mr Gardner is a recognised expert and trainer in laparoscopic surgery and complex gynaecological cancer surgery. He is dual accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC) in both obstetrics and gynaecology and gynaecological oncology. He is also accredited by The British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and is a member of the Hologic advisory board a global corporation. 

Mr Gardner’s active research interests include the investigation of gynaecological conditions and their potential treatments. He is an author of many articles in peer-reviewed journals including high-profile publications such as The Lancet, The British Journal of Cancer and Gynaecological Oncology and Climacteric.

Throughout his career, he has worked closely alongside patients with both benign and malignant gynaecological conditions and has achieved international recognition for his impact on many key surgical and investigative procedures, including laparoscopic surgery, endometrial ablation, and awake patient hysteroscopic procedures. As a specialist in gynaecology and gynaecological oncology, Mr Gardner offers both complex laparoscopic and open surgery for both benign gynaecological conditions such as menstrual problems, endometriosis and fibroids and all gynaecological cancers doing so with the same dedication, attention to detail and professionalism that has come to define all of his work. 

Dual accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC), Mr Gardner’s ceaseless commitment to providing the best possible care has been recognised by patients, colleagues and internationally. Such is his expertise that he has been a frequent guest speaker at high-profile medical conferences both Nationally and Internationally. He very much enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise with his fellow professionals. 

Furthering his passion for education, Mr Gardner has written extensively for many essential medical journals including The Lancet, Gynaecology Oncology and The British Journal of Cancer and he’s also a multi-award winner, having been honoured for his work at The North American Menopause Society Meeting, The Royal College Of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists World Congress Meeting and The British Gynaecological Cancer Society Scientific Meeting. 

In terms of special interests, Mr Gardner is notable for his focus on screening for all forms of gynaecological cancer, the identification of abnormalities or malignancies in any area of the female reproductive system and his unique approach to surgery. As a gynaecologist of vast knowledge and sensitivity, Mr Gardner has played an integral role in improving the quality of life of his patients, whether his services have been called upon to identify a chronic health condition or treat a life-threatening form of cancer.
